Manager, Clinical Services
Location - This role is in-person at North Campus Edmonton.
The Manager, Academic Clinical Services provides strategic program leadership and operational oversight for the Department of Family Medicine’s clinical service delivery within its academic teaching clinic network. This role is central to advancing the Department’s Academic Clinical Services pillar, ensuring that clinical operations directly support the integrated mandates of education, research, and community-based care.
Family Medicine is unique within the Faculty in that residency training occurs primarily in community settings rather than hospital-based environments. To support this model, the Department has developed and operates its own academic teaching clinics to ensure sufficient clinical teaching capacity, protected physician teaching time, and the infrastructure required to sustain residency education and scholarly activity. These clinics are intentionally structured to provide the organizational systems, staffing models, EMR access, and operational supports that traditional community clinics typically do not possess. The Department operates within a complex governance structure that includes two affiliated corporations:
- NAFMASC, which administers the Academic Alternative Relationship Plan (ARP) for physicians practicing within the Department’s academic teaching clinics and oversees the financial flow and physician compensation structures; and
- NAPCAC, the corporation responsible for operating two of the Department’s academic teaching clinics.
In addition, three academic teaching clinics are operated through formal partnerships with Primary Care Alberta and Covenant Health, requiring strategic coordination, shared governance alignment, and collaborative operational planning.
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Manager, Academic Clinical Services works closely with physician leaders, corporate representatives, and academic leadership to ensure that clinical operations are aligned with departmental strategy, corporate mandates, and long-term sustainability objectives.
