Opportunity
The Department of Psychology in the Faculty of Arts and Science invites applications for an entry-level, full-time, tenure-track appointment in Cognitive Neuroscience at the rank of Assistant Professor, commencing July 1, 2027, subject to final budgetary approval.
The Department offers a vibrant and growing research environment, with opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration and undergraduate research involvement through honours theses, independent studies, and research assistantships. The Department is home to the Cognition and Neuroscience Research Group (CNRG), which brings together faculty and students investigating cognition, neuroscience, and related aspects of human behaviour. Our existing research infrastructure includes EEG, eye-tracking, and motion-tracking technologies, as well as local high-performance computing infrastructure and access to national advanced research computing resources. Faculty are encouraged to develop external research collaborations, including those involving neuroimaging facilities in the Edmonton region.
We welcome applicants from across the breadth of cognitive neuroscience and related fields whose research will complement and expand our existing expertise. Areas of interest may include, but are not limited to, attention, perception, memory, learning, emotion, executive functioning, decision-making, speech and language, clinical neuropsychology, and other aspects of cognition and their neural underpinnings. We are particularly interested in candidates who will foster interdisciplinary collaboration, contribute new theoretical or methodological perspectives, and build upon the Department's existing research strengths.
You will join a collegial department of more than 20 full-time faculty whose teaching and research span cognitive, biological, developmental, social, and applied domains. Psychology is the largest major in the Faculty of Arts and Science, with strong student interest in courses related to cognition, brain, and behaviour.
You will be expected to contribute to teaching in cognitive psychology and neuroscience, including courses such as Cognitive Psychology, Perception, Brain and Behaviour, Human Neuropsychology, and Applied Neuropharmacology, depending on your area of expertise. You will also have opportunities to teach and develop senior-level seminars in cognitive neuroscience and related topics, contribute to Introductory Psychology, and develop courses aligned with your research specialization. The ability to teach research methods or statistics will be considered an asset. You will be expected to establish an active program of scholarship that provides meaningful opportunities for undergraduate student involvement.
You must have, or be close to completion of, a terminal degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, Cognitive Science, or a closely related discipline, with a specialization in cognitive neuroscience or a related field. You will demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and an active research program with the potential to involve undergraduate students.
You will submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, teaching dossier (including recent teaching evaluations), statement of research interests, and sample of scholarly work.
Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted by the Department Chair to provide three (3) letters of reference sent directly from referees.
Only selected candidates will be required to submit official transcripts sent directly from the institutions where you completed your degrees.
Questions about this opportunity may be addressed to Dr. Eric Legge, Department Chair, at Eric.Legge@macewan.ca.
