This role is based in Edmonton, AB.
The Team
The Edmonton Waste Services team is a collaborative, customer-focused group driven by SECURE’s commitment to safety, service and entrepreneurial spirit. The team works together to understand customer needs, develop practical solutions and deliver reliable waste management services that minimize environmental impact.
Work Environment
This position offers a Monday-to-Friday schedule, 40 hours per week.
A Day in The Life
- Repack similar waste into larger means of containment for efficient transportation and disposal.
- Complete physical lab packing and bulking of chemicals.
- Actively participate in counting all waste containers within the facility and accurately document the counts.
- Operate processing equipment, power tools and forklifts safely during offloading, loading and waste movement activities.
- Complete maintenance, inspections and checks, and perform basic repairs as required.
- Assist in creating and maintaining a clean and organized facility, with an emphasis on teamwork and housekeeping.
- Maintain the transfer station in compliance with its operating approval.
- Interface with the public and assist with the placement and transfer of materials.
- Reconcile cash and charge accounts as required.
- Input and maintain electronic and/or manual tracking systems for waste and recyclables.
- Participate in field and emergency response support, safety meetings and daily tailgate meetings.
- Help maintain a safe site for internal and external stakeholders.
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
- 1–2 years of general labourer experience.
- Strong work ethic and willingness to persevere through difficult weather conditions, challenging work site environments and long, demanding workdays.
- Physically fit and able to perform physical tasks daily, including lifting, moving containers and other heavy materials, with the ability to spend a major portion of each day on your feet.
- Strong time management skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Experience operating a forklift and/or other small equipment in a safe and efficient manner is considered an asset.
- Previous experience in a related work environment where TDG or WHMIS was an essential part of the job is an asset.
- Post-secondary education related to Chemistry, Biology or Environmental Studies is considered an asset.
