About the Role:
As an Estimator II you will work closely with project managers, schedulers, discipline representatives, accounting, and management to develop, assess, and document project estimates at the Order of Magnitude (OOM), Needs Identification Document (NID), and Service Proposal (SP) stages. This role supports Transmission and Distribution projects, as well as non-regulated opportunities. The Estimator II is responsible for gathering both project and discipline specific scope of information to enable them to complete their estimating activities.
What You’ll Do:
Develop estimates based on project scope and adjust rate values with discipline groups as required for Transmission and Distribution Projects, and to support non-regulated opportunities and other growth initiatives in Electricity.
Review, coordinate, and verify discipline estimates and assumptions with project scope and historical costs.
Work with scheduling to map costs over the duration of a project schedule and provide explanations on major variances.
Review and analyze reports of actual versus estimate/project scope costs and highlight variances.
Lead project meetings in cooperation with the project manager, leading discussions regarding estimate values and associated scope.
Document estimates and actual costs in estimating database upon project completion.
Adjust scope and estimates of the project and incorporate all change orders throughout the lifecycle of the project to ensure the database includes full costs, estimate & scope.
Maintain databases of historical estimates & actual costs associated with projects to verify & update per unit estimating rates to further assist in validation of estimates.
Review charges in projects to ensure cost code alignment for contracts.
Analyze and identify opportunities for improvements in estimating practice and incorporate into process and tools where applicable.
Support the development of the excel-based estimating tool.
Analyze differences between tools to identify areas of improvement within the tool.
Mentor and train Estimator I's.
Other duties of a similar nature.
What You’ll Bring:
Technical or business diploma in related field.
3 – 5 years of related experience in estimating.
Knowledge of transmission and/or distribution system is considered an asset.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing priorities and short timelines.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
