Position Summary

Reporting to the Senior Police Clerk, the Communications Police Clerk provides immediate assistance in emergency and non-emergency situations to RCMP members, the public and internal and external agencies. The position gathers essential information to protect officers and the public, dispatches the appropriate response, and maintains databases by gathering, recording, relating and updating accurate information.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and respond appropriately to incoming telephone calls and radio transmissions using policy knowledge, judgment and analysis.
  • Initiate and maintain accurate police files and computer queries and entries.
  • Respond effectively to emergency, emotionally charged and routine requests at the front counter.
  • Control and record funds received for services and ensure accurate regular deposits.
  • Remain current on municipal, federal and police matters through distributed information systems.

Qualifications

Grade 12 plus specialized training in police or justice procedures or functions. At least four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Specialized CPIC, PROS and court-process knowledge is required. The successful candidate must demonstrate public-relations skill, high stress tolerance, sound emergency assessment, strong communication and interpersonal skills, Microsoft Office proficiency and accurate data entry. The candidate will be appointed as a Community Peace Officer Level 2 for serving legal documents and must obtain RCMP Enhanced Reliability Clearance.

Hours: rotating shifts, 30 hours bi-weekly, with ability to pick up more shifts. Salary: $35.54–$39.05 per hour. CUPE Local 30 position.
